Our Programme of Events shows a Club Cruise on Sunday 18th September.
I am currently investigating a Cruise to the historic town of Joadja in the Southern Highlands for this event, and there are several issues for which I would like feedback from the Club Membership.
Firstly, a few words about Joadja. Joadja town is of significant cultural heritage. It is located in the Southern Highlands - not far from the Wombean Caves - and was settled about 1850. It overlies a shale seam that gave rise to a shale oil industry. The Australian Kerosene Oil and Mineral Company was formed in 1878 to mine the shale and refine it into its different by-products such as paraffin wax (for candles, kerosene, lubricating oils and greases and even ingredients for soap. The community at its peak was home to more than 1200 people, mostly Scottish immigrants who lived in tough conditions in an isolated valley. The mine closed and the people that lived there moved away to start somewhere new. The town, mine and its equipment were left behind, and now stand as a testament to what took place there all that time ago. Nature is slowly but surely taking Joadja back, climbing over the buildings and working its way into the foundations. We can go and enjoy the beaty of this stunning valley, hear the stories and feel the history behind it all.
Joadja is open to the public on Sundays, however, exclusive private tours can be booked from Monday to Saturday. There is a Kiosk at the old town site that serves light refreshments, but visitors can bring their own tucker. Guided tours on the general admission days cost $20 per adult and $5 per child under 16. If we were to go on a private exclusive tour then we can get a fully guided Catered Group tour which provides a tractor trailer tour of the town (stopping where and when required) and a tour of the Whisky Distillery, plus a morning tea and BBQ lunch included. The cost of this fully guided catered tour is $39 per person. A minimum of 20 people is required.
I have spoken to the Managers of the property and they have advised me that Saturday 17th September is available for a private tour, however, we would be sharing it with the Alvis Car Club (20 members), who share a common interest in motoring, so we should be compatible.
So, I would appreciate some feedback on the following:
1. Is there any objection to changing the date of the Cruise from Sunday 18th September to Saturday 17th September?
2. Who is interested in going?
3. Who is in favour of the $20 Guideds Tour?
4. Who is in favour of the $39 fully catered Guided Tour?

Sounds like a great place. I have always wanted to go there.
I will have to confirm that I am free then.
The only issue I can think of is that there is about 6km of dirt road which some people may not like to take their car on

| Thanks Interpid. So that's two of us so far. Surely there is not that many Dirtaphobes in the Club. C'mon fellas it is only 6km of dirt!! I will check it out tomorrow to properly assess the condition of the road. |

I'am in favour of this event, don't need to bring your classic if the road surface is not your favourite. Don't have any issues with the tour options, will go with the preferred option.

OK Folks,
I have reviewed all feedback and made a decision and am going to the board (if you will excuse the NRL Bunkerspeak  )
The Cruise to Joadja Ghost Town is on for Saturday 17th September 2016.
We will muster at three locations as follows:
Sydney Members
Sydney members will meet at Uncle Leo's Truck Stop Servo at 7:00am for a 8:00am departure.
Illawarra Members
Illawarra members will meet meet at the McDonalds Figtree Car Park at the corner of Princes Highway and Bellevue Road Figtree at 7:00am for a 8:00am departure.
Campbelltown - Camden Members
Campbelltown - Camden members will meet at the 7-Eleven Service Station on the Hume Highway 5.7km south of the Pheasant Nest Bridge at 8:30am for a 9:00am departure.
The Sydney and Illawarra members will meet with the Campbelltown - Camden members at the 7-Eleven Service Station on the Hume Highway 5.7km south of the Pheasant Nest Bridge and depart in convoy for Joadja at 9:00am.
The length of the Cruise will be 105km approximately for Sydney members (210km return)and a little less for Illawarra and Campbelltown - Camden members.
Entry fee into the Joadja Ghost Town complex will be $39 per person and will include:
* Morning tea upon arrival;
* A 90 minute guided tour of the Old Joadja Town on tractor trailer with stops on demand to explore the ruins. This will make it easier for the mobility impaired people. The tour includes the stories of the people that lived, worked and perished in the valley - tales of their daily hardships and some of the extraordinary events that took place during Joadja's heyday;
* A visit to the working Whisky Distillery with free sampling of the product;
* A delicious barbeque lunch - with gluten free sausages, fresh bread rolls and a light garden salad, juices, coffee and tea.
The Old Joadja town will not be open to the general public on the day of our tour, and we will share exclusive entry with the Alvis Car Club. The capacity of the Tractor Trailer conveyance is 66, 20 of which will be taken up by the Alvis Car Club. If our numbers exceed 46 then we can tour before or after the Alvis Car Club people so that we can accommodate the full compliment of our members in the same tour.
I urge members to come along on this cruise if at all possible as it promises to be a very interesting and educational event that explores Australia's cultural and industrial heritage.
The final stage of the cruise does involve travelling over some unsealed road. There is 2.8km of unsealed council road immediately turning off Joadja Road. This Council Road is well formed and has just been graded by the local Council this week. After the Council Road there is a sealed section of road descending into the valley, and the final 2.8km section is an unsealed private road that will be graded and compacted prior to our visit (as demanded by the Alvis Car Club).
I will need to know the numbers from our Club that will be attending the Cruise (for catering purposes). Please advise me by Friday 9th September if you will be joining in this event, and the number of people that will be in your car.
