Geoff Bayliss has been working hard behind the scenes with the organisers of the Muscle Car Masters on a plan to celebrate 50 years of motorsport success for the Lotus Cortina. He has organised a display of a number of Lotus Cortina’s for the event and will hopefully have the pleasure of driving a number of former race drivers around the circuit too.

If you are interested in checking out the Lotus display as well as all the racing then head to Sydney Motorsport Park this father’s day.

If you are really keen and would like to take your car along Mark Fenech is able to help organise this for you. All the details are here,

Hi Everyone
Well all is just about ready for the 'big day'
to celebrate 50 Years of the Lotus Cortina.
We have been able to arrange the display with 12 attending cars,
that is at this stage, 9 Mark One models and 3 Mark 2 models.
The cars are coming from as far away as the Sunshine Coast in QLD
Canberra, Wollongong, Ballina and the Southern Highlands.
We have been able to also invite the following drivers from the 'period' the 60's that raced them with varying degrees of success and they include; Jim McKeown, Allan Moffat, Leo Geoghegan,
Robin Bessant [Tas], George Garth and David Weekes.
The cars will be allowed a parade lap of the track and will be adorned with windscreen banners depicting the great drivers of the era.
We will be arranging autograph sessions during the day if possible
for visitors to meet the drivers.
So all that is left is to hope we have nice weather.
Cheers and If you are going to the event on Sunday please come and say Hi!

Geoff

Don't forget if you are in Sydney to drop by on Sunday & check out the display of Lotus Cortinas on display at Muscle Car Masters.

There will be 12 Lotus Cortina's on display, including the ex race cars of Chris Brauer & Norm Watts.

We have also received confirmation that Chris Brauer will also be attending, & will be re united with his old race car.

Here is a poster I have done for the day.

Congratulations to Geoff, Glenyce and Neale for organising and putting on a wonderful display at the MCM. A row of 12 white & green Lotus Cortina's looked fantastic. The cars, car banners, posters, info and the overall look seemed to be very well appreciated by the crowds.

A worthy celebration of 50 years of the Lotus Cortina, well done the Bayliss's

What a great day yesterday at the Muscle Car Masters, thanks to the Bayliss's for all their effort.
We had several drivers present signing autographs and giving us their time, Jim McKewown, George Garth, David Weeks, Chris Brauer to name a few.
George Garth even spent some time with us in the grandstand watching several events.

It was a fantastic day. We had 11 Lotus Cortina's (a couple of ex race cars from the period) on Display at this years Muscle Car masters to celebrate the marques 50th birthday.
The day was topped off with having so many of the drivers from the 1960's there as well including, Jim McKeown, George Garth, Robyn Bessant, David Weekes, Chris Brauer, Leo Geohegan & Allan Moffat.

My highlight would have to be getting to drive Peters Mk2 Lotus for the day & getting to do a couple of laps of the track with the legend Jim Mckeown in the Passengers seat. He left me with some great words of wisdom while I was driving him around the circuit & we approached the new section - I said "I've never been around this new part so I don't really know the lines to take" & he replied "for Christ's sake don't try & learn them now!". We all had a bit of a giggle at that one. There was another great quote from the weekend as well. We were in the grandstand with George Garth & while we were watching a race that had started to settle down he said, "Let me out there in a car, I'll get the crowd on their feet, I'll give them a show!!". They were all a great bunch of guys & I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to spend the day with some legends of Australian Motorsport. Its going to be hard to top it next year.

Anyway to the photos.

Here's what 11 real Lotus Cortina's look like. I pretty good achievement to get this many together at the same time. with cars coming from as far away as Queensland & Canberra to be there for the day.

My ride for the day

The Real deal.. The ex Chris Brauer/Dr John Uren car (#6) & Norm Watts (#28)

The parade lap

I great article in the program about the cars

Scott Fleming still flying the flag for the Lotus Cortina on the track. His best result of the day was 2nd in the group Nb race against some tough competition.

not sure what happened to it Laurie. I heard that it ended up on its roof, but when I went to the pits there wasn't a scratch on it.

I heard another rumour that it broke down just after turn one & missed out on an accident that involved a couple of other cars at turn 2.

I will keep my ear to the ground & try & find out what happened to it.
