Hi guys , firstly let me introduce myself . My name is Jason I have just joined up after purchasing my first cortina today. It is a MK 1 in original condition and has 12 months Vic rego.
What I need to know is what is the best way of getting it rego in NSW . The problem is that it only has lap seat belts in the front. I asked a mechanic that services our work cars and was told the only way that shash belts could be fitted in the front was to drill a hole through from the outside in . This seems a bit drastic and I wouldn't want to do it to start with .
Any input appreciated
Thanks Jason

Hi Jason,

Welcome to the SFCC

You need a blueslip to rego it in NSW...as far as I was aware, if the car is un modified and it came out with those seatbelts, they are fine to use.

Cheers,

Phil.

Hi Jason and a very warm welcome to our club.
If You could tell me what model your Cortina is it may help in solving your seat belt sash attach point problem.
Cars built after 1964 should have a ''hard point'' on the inside of each of the B pillars. That is a threaded hole for the belt attachment bolt. On a lot of the earlier cars holes were actally drilled through the pillar and the attaching bolt head was on the outside.
I don't know of the current regulation for something like that, maybe Phil Eyke or Scott Dubois may be able to shed some light on it. But please don't go drilling any holes if you have to until you get some info.

Regards Geoff

My best recollection is that Justin Potter had a similar issue with his MkII cortina and the answer was as per Phil's comment, "if the car is un modified and it came out with those seatbelts, they are fine to use". I know it had to do with some ADR but cannot recall the particular details sorry

Hi Jason
Is it a 4 door or 2 door, it makes a difference?

Hi Jason
On the early 2door models, that is prior to 1965, the cars were not usually fitted with belts at all, and it wasn't a requirement.
If they were then they were usually only ''lap belts''.
Have a look on the inside of the ''b'' pillar about ''head height''
there may be a threaded hole for the shoulder harness attachment.
You may be lucky to have that, all post 1965 cars should have that feature as standard.
Please let me know the year of manufacture and we may be able to help you more.
Cheers Geoff
