Posted - 06/03/2016 : 22:02:27 Another great event. Thank you all who came along and enjoyed a nice drive through the beautiful Central West. Upon arrival in the quaint little and very historic village of Hill End we walked around with Sandra from National Parks & Wildlife Service and listened to her most interesting stories about the area's very interesting and at some times violent and tragic past. The quest for gold attracted some remarkable people to the area all with their own stories to tell. We were lucky to hear some of them. Pictures of the event coming soon here and in the magazine.

Posted - 04/03/2016 : 20:25:50 the tour at Hill End has been booked. It will start at 3pm and will take about 2 hours.
The tour guide is Sandra Thompson who is a 5th generation resident of Hill End & will be able give a unique history of the town.
Cost is $26 per adult or $19 if you have a blue concession card. Payment will be made before the start of the tour & is cash only. Sandra has asked if we could bring the correct change to make things easier.
See you all tomorrow!

Posted - 02/03/2016 : 21:01:04 As for Sunday, I have a cool surprise.
The NSW Hill Climb Championships are being held at Bathurst on the weekend & there will be some impressive cars racing including an Anglia & Garry Fords V8 mk1 Escort
So for those coming for the two days we will drop in to the race track & check out some of the action at the Mountain Straight hillclimb, & entry for spectators is free

Posted - 02/03/2016 : 20:50:25 The scenery is looking great like the entrance to Hill End

I have spoken to the & the lady in the tourist information centre at Hill End & she has told me that they no longer run tours unless we can get 10 people for the tour. We currently have 9 so I will contact the people that organise something if we cant get 10.

Posted - 02/03/2016 : 20:47:11 Thanks guys, I did a recon of the route last weekend.
All the roads are in pretty good condition a lot of the roads have recently been re sealed.
I have booked lunch for 10-15 people at the Lawson Park Hotel in Mudgee. I had lunch there & the food was really good & reasonably well priced. You can check out the venue in this link http://www.lanternhotels.com.au/lawson-park-hotel/

Posted - 25/02/2016 : 23:42:16 A reminder to those who are going on the cruise and staying at Hill End or even just visiting the town and heading off on Saturday. Neale is asking if numbers of people interested in one or more of the available tours to let us know as soon as possible as bookings have to be made with the tour guide beforehand. Thanks |

Posted - 20/02/2016 : 19:12:09 I have been looking into a couple of options when we get to Hill End.
We could get a guided tour of the village by Adults $26 per person. Concession $19 per person. Family $60 for 2 adults and 2 children. Children under 8 years free.
or the other one is a ghost tour.
For this one we will need a minimum of 10 people & there is a maximum of 20 people Price is: Adult $40 per person. Concession $20 per person. Children under 8 years free. Family $65 for 2 adults and 2 children.

If you are not familiar with Hill End it is well preserved town from the Gold rush era. Between 1854 & 1873 700,000oz of gold were won from this goldfield. So significant was the finds in this are that the blastings of 1871 became the catalyst for the opening of the Sydney Stock Exchange & in 1872 the greatest mass of gold ever extracted was taken from the ‘Star of Hope’ mine at Hill End.
More info about the history of Hill End can be found here

Once again I need an idea of anyone that might be interested in these so I can make a booking. Payment can be made when we get to Hill End at the visitors centre

Posted - 19/02/2016 : 20:22:13 The itinerary for day two of the cruise
CLICK HERE FOR MAP - https://goo.gl/maps/ENJSR7813oD2
START - Hill End Depart 9am Hill End Lodge, 3538 Hill End Rd, Hill End
MORNING TEA & FUEL - Bathurst (1h 30min - 81km) Arrive 10.30am - Depart 11am Banjos Café, 34 Stocklands Centre, William Street Bathurst
From Bathurst we may head up to the mountain for a few laps & photos if people choose. Some people may choose to continue back to Sydney instead. In the same way that some people may choose to go the Bells Line Road or the Great Western Highway for the trip home. The plan for the rest of the trip home from Bathurst to Sydney will be left open to do as you wish. |
